San Francisco 49ers 38 - Cowboys 28
1994 NFC Championship Game
There would be no third straight trip to the Super Bowl for Dallas. An old nemesis made certain of that.
After falling to the Cowboys in each of the last two
NFC title games, the 49ers took aim at a fifth Super Bowl title by jumping on mistakes at Candlestick Park.
Dallas committed five turnovers, including three in the game's first five minutes. Those mistakes contributed to a 21-0 San Francisco start, and the Cowboys never recovered.
Troy Aikman threw for 380 yards and two touchdowns to Michael Irvin, whose 12 catches for 192 yards helped Dallas make a game of it.
But Aikman's three interceptions were huge, particularly the one Eric Davis returned 44 yards for a touchdown to open the scoring. It was one of two picks for Davis.
Emmitt Smith showed no ill effects from a hamstring injury when he ran for two Dallas touchdowns late in the game.
Dallas outgained San Francisco by 157 yards, but turnovers and 9 penalties for 98 yards were telling.
Dallas spots San Francisco a 21-0 lead in the 1st quarter before its furious rally falls short.
Late non pass interference call on Deion covering Irvin results in penalty on Coach Switzer.
I remember being proud of the Cowboys. They never gave up and truly fought like a championship team.
