Hormones and anxiety are linked — because your endocrine system is your body’s chemical communication network.
If your hormones are broadcasting chaos, your mind will try to explain it as “I’m broken”… when it’s often biology.
Anxiety isn’t always “in your head.” Sometimes it’s your endocrine system broadcasting the wrong chemical message.
In this episode, we break down hormones in plain English — what they are, how they travel, why they can flip your mood fast, and why two people can look “fine on paper” while one feels wired and panicky and the other feels foggy, flat, and exhausted.
We cover:
Hormones as chemical messengers (and why they affect everything)
Thyroid, adrenals, blood sugar & why they can mimic anxiety
Why you can’t mindset your way out of a biological mess
Endocrine disruptors: the everyday stuff that quietly interferes with signalling
5 easiest swaps you can do this week (no perfection required)
If this episode made you think, “Oh. So I’m not broken, my system is responding to inputs,” you’ll love the Lab.

P.S., here's that cleaner recipe from tip 4 I promised you:
Ingredients:
250ml (1 cup) white vinegar
250ml (1 cup) water (tap is fine, or if you’re being pretentious, by all means boil then cool or use distilled…)
Rustle up your guns and squeeze 1/2 a fresh lemon within an inch of its life (hopefully amassing between 2 and 3 tablespoons)
Keep hold of that empty shell of a 1/2 lemon, you’ll need it.
Instructions:
Grab a clean glass spray bottle (500ml–750ml).
Pour in the vinegar and water.
Pour in the lemon juice.
For a stronger, fresher lemon smell, shove the squeezed lemon half into the bottle too.
You can also make your life easier and slice the peel into strips before shoving ensues.
Give it a good shake to mix.
Let it sit for 10–30 minutes (or overnight in the fridge for max scent if using the peel).
Shake again before each use because things settle.
Spray on surfaces, let sit 1–5 minutes for tougher spots, then wipe with a damp cloth or sponge. Rinse if needed (e.g., on food-prep areas).
Word of caution, this is not suitable for all surfaces, granite and acids don’t tend to mix.
Also, do not ever mix this stuff with bleach. Acid plus bleach creates chlorine gas, which can end up with you needing to rock up to A&E and, in extreme cases, ending up 6 feet under.
The easiest way to avoid this potential kitchen nightmare if you love a bit of bleach is to ensure that the surfaces are fully rinsed and then dry.
