Walking Above the Dead Sea Canyon. Hidden Israel Desert Trail

Описание: This video features a new hike through Israel’s stunning natural landscapes: a trek in the mountains of the Dead Sea Desert along the picturesque Nahal Mishmar gorge. Our route takes us through the rugged yet incredibly beautiful landscapes of the Judean Desert, not far from the Dead Sea coast.

It was a long hike—over 4 hours on the trail and an elevation gain of more than 350 meters. That January day in 2026 turned out to be surprisingly warm and sunny. At this time of year, it is the rainy season in the desert, so the familiar rocky landscape comes to life in places: small green islands appear among the rocks and sandy slopes, and rare plants push their way through the stones, reminding us that even in the desert, there is life.

Throughout the route, a view opens up from above of the narrow, winding Nahal Mishmar gorge. Its whimsical curves lead deep into the rocky canyon, and during the winter months, water can be seen here—a rare and beautiful sight for these parts.

The route runs along the edge of the canyon, among rocky slopes and desert plateaus, offering impressive panoramic views of the Judean Desert mountains and the Dead Sea region. Despite the remoteness and silence of the desert, there were other travelers on the trail that day—winter is considered one of the best seasons for hiking in these parts.

This 19-minute video captures the atmosphere of a peaceful hike through one of Israel’s most unique natural regions. Stone canyons, sun-drenched slopes, winding trails, and sparse greenery after the winter rains create a special sense of the desert’s vastness and silence.
