Описание: Took the Metro Line 8 and got off at Wanshengwei station, exit B and turned right and walked about 100 metres to the bus stop. Then took bus 229 for three stops (usual 2 RMB to the bus village's bus station.
Followed the crowd into the village.
Lots of snack bars, restaurants and shops selling local fruit, vegetables, poultry and fish. All very countryside and photogenic. Plenty of signs to the 'HuangPu Ancient Port Museum' and indeed all the other village's attractions but we'd come for the museum but it was the museum for us as this area is steeped in history related to the British in China.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday and with last entrance at 4 o'clock. Free admission but that may have been a special for Chinese New Year. Staff didn't seem too interested in searching our bags. I saw an English language leaflet in a display cabinet at the exit but the security guard either didn't have the key or was too bone idle to open it.
Anyway no need for it as nearly everything has a really good English caption. Lots of photographs and maps but little in the way of artifacts. A good display about the Swedish East India Company, a visit from their King and Queen was probably in 2006 responsible for this.
A good hour and a half to stroll round and read everything.Very interesting for this history buff but bored the pants of the locals who'd come in to get out of the rain. Not only trade but how western culture and medicine fared in China.
No gift shop, cafe or toilets much to my wife's chagrin.
Left the museum and turned right and walked about 200 metres and found the Goteborg memorial to commemorate the Swedish visit, easily found as it's next to the 'restroom'.
Easy to image the harbour with a few Western sailing ships floating in it. The old harbour is still there, you walk past it as you approach the museum but you have to look for it.
