Moving to a new country can feel isolating, especially when you are waiting for residency paperwork and unable to work. I tell you about how resilience and courage are required to navigate a new culture and language while trying to feel grounded and rooted.

I love to write and figure things out while writing. I recently wrote an article, here, about how it all started with my diary as a child. When I first go to the Netherlands I didn't know what to do with myself. I remembered a writing challenge called NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and looked it up for a local chapter. This is where I faced the "awkward record scratch" moment of being the first foreigner in a local Dutch writing group ever to attend the kick off party.
