Epson XP-800 Small in One Printer

Описание: I have owned several Epson printers over the last few years. I have owned the Workforce 635, 645, and most recently (the excellent) 3540. These printers are called "Workforce" but they are designed to be "WorkHorse" printers since they combine excellent print speeds with additional functionality (copying, scanning, and faxing). The leader of this bunch the Workforce 3540 is excellent in every facet of use, and for me, has become the measuring stick to which all others are measured.

Using the WorkForce 3540 as a comparison is a bit stiff for the XP-800, since the 3540 is such a big and effective printer. The XP-800 holds up well in many areas, but because of its size limitations it isn't quite as user friendly.

Notes

Photos - You can see in the video that using the Epson Ultra Premium Glossy Paper it is able to outperform a print that I had made commercially. You have the ability to print directly from a memory card and your computer.

Speed - The XP-800 is fast enough. I know that does not sound like a ringing endorsement, but it is the truth. Other printers are faster, but unless you are printing 10+ pages at a time you will not notice much of a difference

Copying - As you would expect.... copying is easy and effective.

Scanner- Will scan directly, and wirelessly, to your MacBook. It is important to remember that for scanning (and printing) that your printer and computer are on the same network.

Faxing - I assume this works... but honestly, I have not sent a fax in years

Set-up - Super easy - I mention it in the video, but the XP-800 (along with most Epson printers) are able to be set-up by the technologically challenged. I was able to set-up and print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro within 15 minutes.

Paper trays- For me this is the biggest drawback - the trays hold a limited amount of paper AND they are difficult to access.

Other capabilities - The XP-800 has the capability to print directly from memory cards. It also features a nice touch screen that allows you to fly through the menus. I also love the capability to be able to print from my iPhone and iPad. The XP-800 will also allow to double-sided prints and scans.

Cost of Ownership - Both the photo paper and inks are at a reasonable cost. The prices will vary based on where you purchase, but the price was consistent to what I expected for high quality ink and paper (the paper was a little cheaper than I expected).

Final Verdict - There is a lot to like about the XP-800, but it does have a few flaws. I am not sure why Epson focused on such a small design. While it does offer a reduced foot print it really does make it less user friendly... especially for larger print jobs. It is my belief that if you a power user of a standard printer or copier you will likely be happier with the Epson Workforce 3540... or if you print a significant number of photos you may prefer a dedicated photo printer. To me the Epson XP800 is ideal for people who have a limited amount of space but still want the capability to print some photos while having an al-in-one printer.
