PTI Exclusive: HyFarm Foods CEO Soundarradjane S on scaling India’s potato economy

Описание: In an exclusive interview with PTI, Gujarat-based HyFarm Foods CEO Soundarradjane S outlines how the company is building an end-to-end potato value chain — from tissue culture labs to global fast food chains across 50 countries.

He says India, the world’s second-largest potato producer, could nearly double output to 125 million tonnes by 2050, with processing, especially French fries, driving growth at nearly 20% year-on-year. HyFarm currently works with 7,000 farmers in Gujarat, producing 4 lakh tonnes under assured buyback, and aims to reach 1 million tonnes and 30,000 farmers by 2028.

The CEO explains the company’s six-to-seven-year seed cycle, Global GAP-certified farming practices, AI-driven farm advisory, cold-chain investments and plans to expand into Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. He also flags varietal diversification beyond the Dutch Santana potato and calls for a Potato Processors Association of India to boost exports and standards.
