To me, Elena Lev is one of the greatest artists I ever know. I have admired her since I was 9 years old. I had wished so bad when Alegria: In a new light would have come to Mexico, I would have screamed her name at the finale, I would have cheered until my hands bleed. But our Queen of Hoops must say goodbye after 27 years of being a circus performer. This is for you Elena, thanks for everything.
Hoops was not originally part of the Alegría line-up when the show premiered on April 21, 1994. Elena's father was invited to tour with his "Flying Lev" act (High Bar) and Elena and her mother tagged along. A few months into the tour, Elena would audition for Cirque and the company asked her to join the tour at 12 years of age... the rest it's history.
