How Planes REALLY Fly (The School Textbook Was Wrong!)

Описание: How do airplanes really fly?
Most of us were taught a simple story in school — that air moves faster over the curved top of a wing, creating low pressure that “pulls” the plane up. It sounds neat… but it’s not the full truth, and part of it is actually wrong.
In this video, we break down the real science of lift in a clear, simple way — no confusing math, just solid physics you can actually understand.

❌ The Popular Myth (And Why It’s Wrong)
You may have heard this explanation:
Air splits at the front of the wing, travels faster over the top because it has a longer path, and then meets the air from the bottom at the back. Faster air means lower pressure, so the wing gets lifted.

The problem?
There is no rule in physics that says those air particles must meet again at the back of the wing. In real tests, the air over the top arrives much sooner than the air below. So the “equal meeting time” idea simply doesn’t happen in real life.
This myth also can’t explain why planes can fly upside down, which stunt planes do all the time. So if that story isn’t correct… what actually keeps planes in the air?

✅ The Real Science of Lift (3 Simple Ideas)
Lift is not caused by one single trick. It comes from three things working together.
1️⃣ Pushing Air Down (Newton’s Third Law)
A wing is tilted slightly upward as it moves forward.
Because of this angle, the wing pushes air downward.
When air is pushed down, the air pushes the wing up in return.
This is Newton’s Third Law: every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

You can feel this yourself by holding your hand out of a moving car window and tilting it. The air pushes your hand upward — that’s lift in action.
Even flat paper airplanes fly using this same idea.

2️⃣ Pressure Differences Above and Below the Wing
As the wing moves forward, it squeezes air under it, creating high pressure below. At the same time, air moves faster over the top, creating lower pressure above. This pressure difference adds an extra upward force that helps lift the plane.
Important point:
Low pressure doesn’t happen because air is moving fast.
The air moves fast because it is being pulled into a low-pressure area.

3️⃣ Why Air Sticks to the Wing (Coanda Effect)
Air doesn’t just fly straight off the wing.
It follows the curve of the top surface.
This happens because air naturally likes to stay attached to curved surfaces. This is called the Coanda Effect.
This “stickiness” keeps air flowing smoothly over the wing so it can be guided downward.
If air stops sticking to the wing, lift drops fast — and that’s what causes a stall.

🧠 So What Really Makes Planes Fly?
✔️ The wing pushes air downward
✔️ Pressure differences help pull the wing upward
✔️ The airflow sticks to the wing so the pushing keeps working
All three are needed.

Lift is not magic — it’s a beautiful mix of motion, pressure, and airflow working together.
And the real math behind it is so complex that scientists use supercomputers to solve it — which shows just how amazing everyday flight really is.
