Just witnessed a real Sounder train passing through Auburn Station, and it was solid mainline action.
You could hear it before you saw it — the distant horn echoing through town, the low rumble building up as it approached the crossing. The gates came down, bells ringing, and then the headlights appeared down the track.
The locomotive rolled in smoothly, horn sequence clear and strong. Steel wheels grinding lightly against the rails as it entered the station area. Platform passengers waiting, some boarding, some just watching. The engine idled for a moment, then throttle came up slightly as it prepared to continue south.
From trackside you could feel the vibration in the platform as the train passed. The coaches followed behind, windows reflecting the afternoon light. Clean, steady movement. Real commuter rail energy.
