48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath demonstrate airpower with the F-35 and F-15

Описание: The 48th Fighter Wing hosts nearly 7,000 active-duty personnel, British and U.S. civilians, and 11,000 family members across RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell, England. As the largest U.S. fighter operation in Europe, the wing employs four combat ready fighter squadrons of F-15 Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft.

In June 1954, the wing received the moniker "Statue of Liberty Wing" during its service in Chaumont, France. The name became officical shortly after resuling in the Liberty Wing being the only wing in the Air Force both numbered and named.


48th Operations Group

The 48th Operations Group oversees the operational support, execution, and sustainment of all flight and airfield operations for the Liberty Wing. The 48th OG maintains combat-ready forces in support of operations and deterrence for U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command and NATO operations. The group consists of two F-15E Strike Eagle fighter squadrons, two F-35A Lightning II fighter squadrons, an operations support squadron, and over 500 personnel capable of delivering global aerial dominance during the execution of war plans and contingency operations.

492nd Fighter Squadron
The 492nd Fighter Squadron "Bolars" is a combat-ready, world-wide deployable F-15E Strike Eagle squadron capable of executing strategic attack, interdiction, close air support and counter-air missions in support of war plans and contingency operations for USEUCOM, USAFRICOM and NATO. The 492nd FS employs the full array of air superiority and surface attack munitions to include the most advanced U.S. Air Force precision-guided weapons.

493rd Fighter Squadron
The 493rd Fighter Squadron "Grim Reapers" is a combat-ready, multirole fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II squadron, leading the U.S. F-35 integration across Europe. The F-35A is capable of executing strategic attack, interdiction, close air support and counter-air missions in support of war plans and contingency operations for USEUCOM, USAFRICOM, and NATO. The Lightning II is designed to provide the pilot with unsurpassed situational awareness, positive target identification and precision strike in all weather conditions. Mission systems integration and outstanding over-the-nose visibility features are designed to dramatically enhance pilot performance.

494th Fighter Squadron
The 494th Fighter Squadron "Panthers" is a combat-ready, world-wide deployable F-15E Strike Eagle squadron capable of executing strategic attack, interdiction, close air support
and counter-air missions in support of war plans and contingency operations for USEUCOM, USAFRICOM, and NATO. The 494th FS employs the full array of air superiority and surface attack munitions, to include the most advanced USAF precision-guided weapons.

495th Fighter Squadron
The 495th Fighter Squadron "Valkyries" is a combat-ready, multirole fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II squadron, leading the U.S. F-35 integration across Europe. 48th Operations Support Squadron
The 48th Operations Support Squadron “Eagles” train and equip warfighters to enable agile combat air power in support of 48 FW, USAF, Combatant Commands, and Allied Forces. 48th OSS includes flight and airfield management, air traffic control, weather, intelligence, weapons and tactics, wing scheduling, training, life support, operational plans, and group administration.
