This video will help you fix a VW Golf rear hatch that does not fully close. If your latch is working fine, you probably have a loose striker plate, which is the piece that the latch grabs onto, and is found on the lower edge of your trunk.
You might also get a sign on your instrument cluster showing that your trunk is open, even if you just closed it.
To access the two M8 Triple Square bolts holding the striker, you must use a pry tool or flat head screwdriver and lift the plastic trim out of the way.
