Raccoons (Procyon lotor) are highly adaptable and intelligent mammals native to North America, known for their distinctive masked faces, ringed tails, and paws. These nocturnal creatures have a varied diet that includes fruits, nuts, insects, small animals, and even human leftovers. With the ability to thrive in urban environments, raccoons are skilled climbers and excellent problem solvers. Their adaptable nature has made them successful scavengers, often raiding garbage cans and finding shelter in attics or crawl spaces. Raccoons are characterized by their keen sense of touch and a high level of manual dexterity, allowing them to manipulate objects with precision. Despite their reputation as mischief-makers, raccoons play a crucial role in ecosystems by controlling insect and small rodent populations.
