This is from my 2016 Africa trip, heading to my first lodge. This flight was arranged by my tour company. I had never flown Airlink, and I wasn't sure what to expect. All I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised.
I don't remember the flight number, I just looked it up and at the moment it is SA8861, departing Johannesburg 10:00 and arriving in Skukuza at 10:50. I had seat 6A.
Airlink is kind of odd. They are different that a regional carrier in the U.S., and are fully independent. AirLink does, however, have a contract for many SAA flights though. I honestly don't know if this was one of those contract flights, though I think it was. Anyhow, on to the flight.
All I can say is that I was quite impressed! In the U.S., on a little regional jet there might be a flight attendant or two, but for a 40 minute flight there is no service for economy class. SA Airlink shows them how its done! The flight attendant was quite friendly and offered a choice of snacks, as well as drinks. WOW! These seats are comfortable, especially if you can get one of the A seats. I really recommend Airlink for inter-South African travel, and they probably offer the best connections from Johannesburg to safari, given that Skukuza is inside Kruger.
