Fourteen Locks and Cwmcarn Forest Cycle Ride

Описание: A christmas special cycle ride film. I didn't think I'd be able to get another ride in before Christmas or even the New Year but I got to take to the Fourteen Locks canal trail. This starts in Newport near the M4 Motorway where the trail splits between the last ride I did to Abergavenny also along the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal.

This cycle ride follows the canal through the villages of Risca and Cross Keys ending at Cwmcarn and up into Cwmcarn Forest. The forest is known for Forest Scenic Drive where you can drive around the hills though this is currently (December 2021) only open during weekends.

The gravel trail though can be cycled at any time and has both wide gravel trails and narrow off-piste trails for more adventurous mountain bikers.

It's was quite a tough climb in places with temperatures in single figures getting colder with the altitude and a bit of a breeze coming over the tops of the hills on occasions.

A challenging end to the cycle ride but with only being around 8 miles from Newport City there is plenty of energy left for the tougher climbs of Cwmcarn.
