"Too Much Between Us" is a somewhat lesser known song (deep track?) by Procol Harum. It was included in their third studio album, "A Salty Dog," released in 1969. It was written by Gary Brooker, Keith Reid, and Robin Trower. The "Salty Dog" album had a very nautical theme, and this song for me conjures up an image of a sailor on a ship at sea writing a letter to his - wife? sweetheart?
"There's you, you're sleeping over there
Whilst me I'm sitting here
With so much sea between us
I can't make it much more clear "
For the piano cover, I wanted to have a simple arrangement that gives the feeling like it could have been played on a guitar or some such instrument on the ship.
There is a line in the song that strikes me as pretty profound and timeless:
"Let him who fears his heart alone
Stand up and make a speech
For him perhaps an emperor's throne
If he could only speak. "
