Join us as we launch 𝙄𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙨: 𝙎𝙞𝙢 𝘾𝙝𝙞 𝙔𝙞𝙣, the final instalment in the 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 series. In this short documentary directed by filmmaker Ric Aw (@awric_ric), written and narrated by Chi Yin, she traces her family's forgotten roots, and how it has influenced her and her work. She also explores this in her later project 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘺 𝘞𝘦’𝘭𝘭 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥.

Sim Chi Yin (@chiyin_sim) is an artist and photographer whose works often explore issues relating to history, memory, conflict and migration, and their consequences. She was commissioned as the Nobel Peace Prize Photographer in 2017, and joined Magnum Photos as a nominee member in 2018. Her work has been featured in numerous international group and solo exhibitions including institutions in Hong Kong, Singapore, Italy, South Korea and Turkey (more info at 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘮.𝘤𝘰𝘮).

Chi Yin is continuing to work on this project on her family history and a counter narrative of British colonial legacies in Southeast Asia. She’s making books and installations from this years-long, research-based project. To continue her on-going self-funded work, she’s selling prints from the series and others.
