At the crime scene, investigators recovered about 40 spent shell casings, underscoring the sheer scale of the attack.

The evidence suggested a targeted and coordinated assault, not a random act of violence. Law enforcement officials described it as a “senseless act” that devastated the Tampa Bay community and mobilized significant resources to identify those responsible.

Indictments and Arrests
On September 30, 2021, a Hillsborough County grand jury returned indictments, and police announced the arrests of five men tied to the shooting:

Quandarious Hammond (28)
Jaylin Bedward (22)
James Denson (24)
Andrew Thompson (22)

Each suspect faces felony charges, including:
First-degree murder
Attempted first-degree murder (for another passenger in the car)
Conspiracy to commit murder
Shooting into a vehicle

Additional charges were tailored to specific individuals:
Hammond and Sampson were charged with another count of attempted murder related to a third victim.
Hammond, Thompson, and Denson were also accused of discharging a firearm from a vehicle in public.

Prosecutors emphasized that these coordinated indictments reflected the collective responsibility of the group for Suni’s death.
