Tetrachords - from the Greek tetra, meaning four, and chord, meaning note. Tetrachords are 4-note sequential scales. In this video, we review keyboard basics and go over how to make a tetrachord and how it makes the building block for scales, melodies, and harmonies.
Review:
The musical note names are A B C D E F G.
You have to know your musical alphabet backward too!
G F E D C B A
There are no black keys between E & F or B & C.
Find a group of two black keys, and the note name of the white key in the middle is D.
New content:
Tetrachords follow a Wholestep-Wholestep-Halfstep pattern.
Combining the tetrachord that starts on note with the tetrachord that ends on a note makes a major scale (aka a Do-Re-Mi scale).
There are twelve major scales and twelve major tetrachords; remember, it is easier to learn twelve 4-note scales than twelve 8-note scales.
For your right hand (R.H.), if the tetrachord starts on a white key, use finger number one (your thumb). If it starts on a black key, use finger number two (your index).
