This game sure brought back some nostalgia from my youth. It was also a nightmarish challenge on insane difficulty. Especially the pink bob-ombs...

Explaining some of my strategies:

One time, I managed to reach the final level but ran out of ammo. I was forced to watch the bad guys slowly chip away at the castle as I remained helpless. Therefore, efficient use of ammo and gold is paramount. I use the shotgun when I can on weaker enemies and grouped enemies.

While the assault rifle is more cost-efficient for the damage it deals, it simply doesn't have enough firepower. Even though the plasma rifle is less efficient, the damage saved to the castle more than makes up for the difference.

Regarding pink bob-ombs, mines and castle turrets are your friends. Don't use ground turrets because the bob-ombs are so low to the ground that they can't be shot by them. They also come so fast that the shotgun is a terrible choice, but they are one-shot by every weapon, even the magnums. I tried the uzi here, which turned out to be a bad choice due to the small target reticle. The plasma rifle is the better choice for them.

Bombs on groups of tough enemies are also great, especially the green koopas. It's satisfying hearing all those coins at once.

Finally, turrets are a poor investment unless it's for the pink bob-ombs. Save them for the last level if you can and let them use their ammo.

In the end, I had more than enough ammo, but that's not really a bad thing!

This challenge is brutal but can be done! God speed if you want to try!
