Today on our 2015 BMW X5 we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the curt class three custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 13077.So here's what our hitch is gonna look like once we have it installed on our X5. The cross tube's going to be completely hidden behind the bumper and all we're going to see is the receiver's tube sticking out of the very bottom of the bumper here. It's going to give us a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, so we're going to have a lot of different options for whatever kind of accessory we want to mount. The way we're going to mount our accessories, the hitch pin hole here on the side and it is going to accept a standard five ace pin and clip. These aren't included in the kit, but you can pick them up here along with some locking devices to keep your accessories safe at etrailer.com.The safety chain connection points are going to be a loop style welded to the bottom of the receiver tube. And as you can see, we'll have plenty of room to get most size hooks on or off.

As far as weight capacity goes, our hitch is going to have a 600 pound tongue weight, which is the maximum downward force, the receiver tube along with a 6,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's the amount it can pull, including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it. Now with those numbers you always want to double check your BMW's owner's manual and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight.Like to give you a few measurements and that's going to help you whenever you're looking at accessories for your new hitch. Like a ball mount, bike rack or even a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin holds, the outer most edge of the bumper for it about four inches.

That measurement's going to come in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough clearance and that is not going to come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it's really about 15 inches.That measurement is going to come in handy when you're looking for a ball mount to make sure you find the appropriate riser drop to match up to your trailer. But now that we've seen what our hitch looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed.To begin our installation, we're going to open up the hatch on our x five and on the driver's side we're going to have this access panel. We'll go ahead and open it up, remove the cover aside, and then at that back corner here we're going to have our tail light assembly. There's going to be a small tab and we'll reach in and press in on the tab so we can disconnect the wiring.

We'll move the plug out of the way and we'll pull back the carpet, and we'll find two nuts that are holding the tail light assembly in place. So we can grab an eight millimeter socket and pull those two nuts out.With those two nuts removed, we'll grab our tail light and we'll remove it and we'll set it aside where it won't get damaged and we'll go ahead and do that on the other side as well. Underneath our taillight at the very corner of the facia here will have another bolt that we'll have to pull out. We use an eight millimeter socket, and we'll pull out the bolt on each side.On the bottom of the facia on either side of the center, we're gonna have two bolts that are holding the bottom facia to some supports. So we'll grab our eight millimeter socket and pull those four bolts out.Removed our wheelwell, right where the arch is will have two plastic rivets that are going to be holding it in place.

Now since they're rivets, we're going to have to drill those out, but they do have replacements in our kit. So we'll take a small drill bit. We're going to go right in the center. You want to drill it until that river comes out and it's freed from the facia.Now we're going to pry the plastic arch away, but you only want to get it to about here where the fender meets the fascia. Because we do have another rivet up here, but we don't have another one to replace it. So we'll start pulling til the clips start releasing, and if you're having some trouble getting it started, you can take a plastic trim panel tool, the way it won't damage the paint, and we're going to start prying it away so we can get access behind it. So we'll grab an eight millimeter socket and pull it out. We're going to repeat that entire process on the other side.Before we pull our facia of
