The Star Excursion is a brilliant balance and control drill we use at Good Vibes Physio to improve single-leg stability, build ankle, knee, and hip control, and train your body to stay stable while reaching in multiple directions.
This is a cornerstone exercise for ankle rehab, knee stability, and return-to-sport programs because it challenges your body in real-world, multi-directional positions.
We use this exercise in physio and performance programs to help people:
✅ Improve single-leg balance and proprioception
✅ Strengthen ankle, knee, and hip stabilisers
✅ Build confidence with multi-directional movement
✅ Reduce re-injury risk and improve movement control
How to do it:
Stand on one leg in the centre and reach the other leg out in different directions like the points of a star.
Lightly tap the floor and return to the centre each time while keeping your standing leg stable.
Move slowly and stay in control.
Stay tall. Stay balanced. Own each reach.
