ചളി നുണയുന്ന പൂമ്പാറ്റകൾ Mud-puddling

Описание: പൂക്കളെ കുറിച്ച് ആര് പാട്ടെഴുതിയാലും കൂടെ പൂമ്പാറ്റയും കാണും . ആളൊരു വർണ്ണവിസ്മയം കൂടി ആയതിനാൽ ചിത്രശലഭം എന്നും വിളിക്കും. പൂക്കളിൽ തേനുണ്ട്, വയർ നിറച്ച് പാറിപ്പറന്ന് നടക്കുന്ന സന്തോഷ ജന്മം എന്നാണ് പൂമ്പാറ്റകളെക്കുറിച്ച് കവികളുടെ സങ്കൽപ്പം.
പക്ഷെ തേൻ മാത്രമല്ല പൂമ്പാറ്റകളുടെ ഇഷ്ടം ഭക്ഷണം. പല വൃത്തികെട്ട സാധനത്തിലും പോയിരുന്ന് രുചിയോടെ ആൺപൂമ്പാറ്റകൾ അത് വലിച്ച് കുടിച്ച് രുചിക്കുന്നത് കാണാം. ‘മഡ് പെഡ്ലിങ്’ (Mud peddling) എന്നാണതിന് പറയുക. ‘ചളി നുണയൽ ‘ എന്ന് മലയാളത്തിൽ പേരിടാം., ചളിമണ്ണ്, ചാണകം, , ആനപ്പിണ്ടം, പട്ടികളുടെയും പക്ഷികളുടെയും കാഷ്ടം, അഴുകിയ ജൈവാവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾ, മനുഷ്യരുടെ മലം, മൂത്രം, വിയർപ്പ് ഒന്നും ഒഴിവാക്കില്ല ഈ മനോഹര ജീവികൾ
അരുവികളുടെ ഓരത്ത് നനഞ്ഞ മണ്ണിൽ ശലഭക്കൂട്ടങ്ങൾ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നത് വെള്ളം കുടിക്കാനായിരിക്കും എന്നായിരുന്നു ആദ്യമൊക്കെ ഗവേഷകർ കരുതിയത്. പൂന്തേനിൽ നിന്നും പ്രധാനമായും ഗ്ലൂക്കോസ് മാത്രമേ ലഭിക്കുന്നുള്ളു. ഊർജ്ജാവശ്യങ്ങളെല്ലാം അതുകൊണ്ട് നടക്കും. മറ്റൊരു ഭക്ഷണവും ഇല്ലല്ലോ പാവങ്ങൾക്ക്. പ്രത്യുത്പാദന കഴിവ് വളർത്താനും ബീജങ്ങളുടെ ഗുണം വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കാനും മുട്ടകളുടെ ഉത്പാദനത്തിനും ഗുണത്തിനും അത്യാവശ്യമായ പല ലവണങ്ങൾ പെൺ പൂമ്പാറ്റയ്ക്ക് ഇണ ചേരലിനിടയിൽ കൈമാറാനുമായാണ് ‘പഡ്ലിങ്ങ്’ എന്ന ഈ അലച്ചിൽ. സോഡിയം ലവണങ്ങൾ കൂടാതെ നൈട്രജൻ സംയുക്തങ്ങൾ, ചില പോഷകങ്ങൾ അമിനോ ആസിഡുകൾ, ആൽക്കലോയിഡുകൾ എന്നിവയും ഇവ മഡ് പഡ്ലിങ്ങിലൂടെ വലിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നു.
അരുവികളുടെ കരയിലെ നനവുള്ള മണൽത്തിട്ടുകളിൽ ഇവ കൂട്ടമായി എത്തി മുന്നിലെ തുമ്പികൈയിലൂടെ ചളിവെള്ളം വലിച്ച് കുടിച്ച് ഉടൻ തന്നെ പിറകിലൂടെ പുറത്തേക്ക് തെറിപ്പിച്ച് കളയും . മൂന്നു സെക്കന്റ് കൂടുമ്പോൾ ഈ തെറിപ്പിക്കൽ നടത്തുന്നത് കാണാം.. ആറളം വന്യ ജീവി സങ്കേതത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ സർവേകളിൽ പതിനായിരക്കണക്കിന് ആൽബട്രോസ് ശലഭങ്ങൾ കൂട്ടമായി പുഴക്കരയിൽ മഡ് പഡ്ലിങ് നടത്തി ദേശ സഞ്ചാരം നടത്തുന്നതായി കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.
പൂക്കളുമായി മാത്രമല്ല പൂമ്പാറ്റകളുടെ ലോഹ്യം എന്ന് സാരം. ഇവരെ ‘ചളിപ്പാറ്റേ’ എന്നും ഇടക്ക് വിളിക്കാം .

The organism seeks out nutrients in certain moist substances such as rotting plant matter, mud, and carrion, and sucks up the fluid. Where the conditions are suitable, conspicuous insects such as butterflies commonly form aggregations on wet soil, dung, or carrion.[1] From the fluids they obtain salts and amino acids that play various roles in their physiology, ethology, and ecology.[2][3] This behaviour also has been seen in some other insects like the leafhoppers, e.g. the potato leafhopper, Empoasca fabae
