The biggest influence in my playing is certainly Mr. Ledward Kaapana. First his video, then his workshops, then the hours I spent learning from his CDs, and then the hours I've spent playing alongside him, many of them in "the garage."
The tunes we play together come from an enormous range, Ledward is fluent in many styles and has immediate recall of hundreds of songs, but one that we often get around to is an instrumental written by his brother, Nedward, called "Kolomona Slack Key."
The song was recorded on the Hui Ohana reunion album of 1987, on Nedward's "I'm My Own Man," and on Ledward's solo CD, "Ki Ho`alu Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar." It also appeared on Ikaika Brown's debut, "Kalo Man."
In this version we're plugged into Ledward's massive acoustic guitar amplifier so he can continue his exploration of his new guitar and its pickup system. The closeup of Ledward was captured on a Panasonic Lumix GH2, wide shot on a Sanyo Xacti HD2000, audio on a Sony PCM-D50. Editing in Edius Neo.
