Professor Suzanne Chambers has been instrumental in working with cancer support groups over many years. Suzanne has been part of Cancer Council Queensland since 1989 and over time has developed a broad range of cancer support services and led research into breast, gynaecological and prostate cancer, cancer nursing and physician education, peer support in cancer, supportive care interventions, patient decision making and patient education. Suzanne is now with Griffith University in Preventative Health.
In this DVD Suzanne talks about strengthening your relationship, understanding differences, managing differences; showing support, showing that you care and balancing time alone and together. Couples can find it difficult to feel close to one another if one person wants to talk and the other does not. Showing that you care is more than just providing support. It means reaching out to your partner and showing them how you feel. Men and women often have different ideas of how to express caring. Women might think of hugs and compliments, whilst men may say, "What can I DO for her?" Occasionally the roles are reversed.
This is an ideal DVD for all to view as it gives plenty of ideas on how to create healthy relationships with the patient, the carer and themselves as family and/or friends.
