I went completely solo camping in the wild forests in early autumn — on the second day, without a tent or a sleeping bag.
I wanted to show how it’s possible to survive in harsh conditions. On the second day, I found a perfect spot for camp under a big rock.
The rain poured nonstop, but still, I had an amazing experience. I cooked delicious food and stayed warm and dry inside my shelter.
The stone wall reflected the heat back to me, keeping me comfortable throughout the night.
This video also shows the best techniques for making tasty and nutritious jerky so you’re always prepared for any adventure. Knowing how to preserve meat is one of the most important survival skills and can save your life in tough conditions.
In dry weather, all you need to do is slice lean meat thinly and hang it in the sun and wind. But in cold and damp conditions, you may need to build a simple smoker to smoke and dry the meat for long-term storage. In this video, I show how to build a smoker and the key steps to make jerky that can last for months—or even years—without refrigeration.
I used fern leaves to help keep the smoke inside the smoker. The smoke dries the ferns, so you need to watch carefully to make sure they don’t catch fire.
Smoking and drying the meat takes about 5–6 hours. I kept the fire a little hotter to speed up the process, which is slightly faster than ideal, but as long as the meat is fully dried and stays dry, it can last for years.
All of this, completely alone — in the wild.
