What sort of foods should you expect to find/eat in Malawi?
• Our local staple is Nsima - cooked maize flour (it looks like mashed potato).
• There's plenty of rice.
• Our popular fish is called Chambo.
• Then there'll be stews in many varieties: beef and chicken especially.
Traditional foods include:
• sweet potato,
• cassava,
• roast maize, and
• peanuts.
Unusual foods include
• Mbewa,
• Abwanoni, and
• Ngumbi.
Traditional sweet snacks include:
• Mandasi and
• Zitimbuwa.
And on the roadside, you will frequently find:
• Chips aka chiwaya,
• Meats and chicken,
