A Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan uses different types of radioactive tracers to measure important body functions such as glucose or amino acid metabolism. There are many different types of radioactive tracers and they are used to enhance the images during the scan. The results of the scan help doctors diagnose and plan treatment for your disease. Follow the instructions to prepare for your PET scan. The instructions are different for each specific radioactive tracer used, especially when you need to fast before your scheduled appointment procedure.
