This documentary explores the legacy of Railway 200 across Darlington, Shildon, and Heighington, tracing how the world’s first passenger line laid the foundations for everything from local coal trains to high-speed rail. We look at the George Stephenson steam engine, the development of the George Stephenson locomotive, and the importance of the George Stephenson Locomotion in shaping rail’s future.

While this is a railway history documentary, visiting Hopetown Darlington railway museum and Locomotion Shildon railway museum, it also shows how the Stockton and Darlington Railway was part of the wider Industrial Revolution, transforming how people and goods moved across Britain and beyond.
