Optoma HD20 DLP Projector Repair | Shape Lens Replacement | Cause: Low Quality Lamp Assembly

I had a donor optical assembly with a good shape lens to donate. This is a far more common problem than people realize. Hopefully my little rant saves people from making this same mistake. If you need a shape lens or any other part, contact the folks I use.

Time Electronics in China. They take PayPal and ship DHL. Their contact info is [email protected] Be sure to let them know I referred you.

The housing did not have the proper UV/IR block filter and this caused the shape lens to burn. The owner had no idea that the lamp assembly was substandard. The advertising on the website they went to, makes it seem like the quality is the same as the Original Equipment Manufacturer's lamp assemblies.

Spoiler alert! ----- It's not.

In case anyone asks:
1. I blurred the company name because I don't want to advertise them.

2. I am not 100% sure if they are aware of what some of their products are doing. Lots of companies just sell what they are sent. The manufacturer is really the source of these problems. It doesn't hurt for the reseller to know more about their product, but that seems to be the exception rather than the norm. It is not a requirement.

3. This isn't directed at this company in particular. There are dozens of sellers like this. All likely buying from the same manufacturer or group of manufacturers.

4. My goal is to educate the consumer instead of shame or talk down on the seller. At the end of the day, no one is forcing us to spend our money. We decide on our own and sometimes these things happen.

Every company listed here should be reputable. https://www.projectorcentral.com/proj... Go by who has the best reviews and the price you are okay with. Cheap is not good here. You want to be in the middle cost wise. Feel free to ask here if you are not sure.

Don't buy cheap lamps. Don't buy them on Amazon.
