Описание: The 1979 Monaco Grand Prix began with a clean formation lap and an immediate display of control from pole-sitter Jody Scheckter, who launched perfectly into Sainte Devote. Niki Lauda made the strongest start among the chasers, moving past Gilles Villeneuve and Patrick Depailler to secure second place early on. Scheckter quickly opened a solid gap, while Lauda focused on defending from Villeneuve’s Ferrari.

Villeneuve eventually overtook Lauda at the start of lap four, giving Ferrari a comfortable 1–2 as both drivers steadily pulled away. Behind them, Lauda became the center of a long queue that included Depailler, Jacques Laffite, Didier Pironi, Alan Jones, Jochen Mass, Jean-Pierre Jarier and Carlos Reutemann. Attrition soon hit the pack: James Hunt retired with a driveshaft failure, Riccardo Patrese damaged his suspension against the barrier, and René Arnoux dropped out after early contact with Nelson Piquet.

Pironi played a major role in the midfield battles, first colliding with Laffite and later spinning Depailler. His race ended dramatically when he made contact with Lauda, launching his Tyrrell over the Brabham and into retirement. Lauda’s car was too damaged to continue.

Mechanical failures removed both Lotuses, putting Alan Jones into third and allowing him to close rapidly on the Ferraris. The Australian looked poised to fight for victory until he hit the barrier at Casino Square, ending his charge. This opened the door for Clay Regazzoni, who climbed to second after Villeneuve retired with transmission failure. Despite gearbox problems, Regazzoni closed the gap to Scheckter but ran out of time.

Scheckter held on to win, securing the championship lead for Ferrari. Regazzoni finished close behind, while Reutemann completed the podium after resisting pressure from Piquet and Depailler. John Watson took fourth, Depailler was classified fifth despite retiring late, and Mass claimed the final point.
