Baby Guppy Care Guide: Keep Your Fry Healthy
Baby guppies, also known as fry, require special care in their first few weeks of life. Once born, they should be immediately separated from adult fish to avoid being eaten. Use a breeding box or a separate tank with clean, warm water (around 26–28°C or 78–82°F).
Feed them high-protein, crushed or powdered food such as baby brine shrimp, micro worms, or specialized fry flakes 3–5 times a day in small portions. Clean water is vital, so perform partial water changes (20–30%) every 2–3 days. A sponge filter is recommended to keep the water oxygenated without harming the tiny fry.
Lighting should be soft and on for about 12 hours a day to support healthy growth. Avoid strong currents that may stress the babies. Guppy fry grow quickly, and within 4–6 weeks, you can start to see their colors and separate males from females to prevent early breeding.
With the right care, your baby guppies will grow into healthy, colorful adults.
