This is my go-to recipe when I want to wow someone and I made the recipe easy by using seasining that's available in any countries so you don't really buy any Japanese seasonings that you aren't familiar with and never gonna use again:)
[Ingredients for 3~4 people]
1kg of Pork belly
3~4tbsp of Ginger
6~8 cloves of Garlic
Any veggie scraps for neutralizing the smell of the pork
Any root veggies for eating
3~4 boiled eggs
Water 300~500ml (until the pork is covered)
Sugar 3~4 heaping tsp
Soy sauce 100~200ml (pour evenly while drawing spiral pattern 2-3times)
[Recipe]
1. Cut pork belly into 10~15 pieces and stir with oil.
2. Remove excess oil by paper towel.
3. Pour enough water to cover the pork and put garlic, ginger, and veggie scraps and shimmer for 30 min.
4. Pour water again and remove the scraps and shimmer for 2~3 hours with low heat.
5. Put soy sauce, sugar and any vegetables you like and shimmer for 1 hour before you eat and finish:))
[Tips]
・Root veggies like carrots, radish, onions and turnip can go well with this dish.
・You can use mirin if you have and the ratio of soy sauce and mirin would be 2:1.
・You can make a glazed sauce by taking out the pork after done and reducing the amount of water by half and adding 4~5 tbsp of soy sauce and 2~3 tsp of honey.
