The "Upside Down" parallel compression trick

We don't know what is the official name of this trick if there is any, we are not even sure if we should call it a "technique" as it is only a variation of the traditional parallel compression chain used by many sound engineers for years. The truth is that we've been using this and in some cases it give us better results than the traditional New York compression, especially on energetic drum tracks, that's why we show both in this video and compare them at the end so you can hear the difference and decide which one to use depending on the style you are mixing.
We used Waves CLA-76 because it has independent attack and release knobs but this can be done with almost any stock compressor and most free compressor plugins out there.
