A major controversy has erupted in Odisha over the proposed second-largest dam project on the Ib River in Sundargarh district. The project has triggered massive protests from local villagers.

According to reports, around 30 villages in the Talasara region could be submerged if the dam is constructed. Locals strongly oppose the project, claiming it will destroy their homes and livelihoods.

Villagers have raised slogans like “We will give our lives, but not our homeland,” expressing deep anger against the proposed displacement. They allege that decisions are being taken without proper Gram Sabha and Palli Sabha consultations.

On the other hand, authorities claim the project could be developed at “Telijor,” which would impact fewer villages, but the matter has now become an inter-state dispute after intervention by the Central Water Commission.

Due to the rising opposition and revised reports being sought, the project work has currently slowed down, turning it into a major political and public debate in Odisha.
