While the full agreement has not been shared, Albanese said both nations will invest $1 billion each over the next six months to expand mining and processing capacity and set a minimum global price floor for critical minerals.

The agreement aims to reduce reliance on China, which currently controls 70 per cent of global mining and 90 per cent of processing, amid escalating trade tensions.

Albanese said the deal “isn’t just about digging things up,” forecasting an $8.5 billion pipeline of clean-energy and defence-related projects.
