AITA for Refusing to Be “Big Brother” and Telling My Step-Parents to Back Off?
At 19, I live independently in homes partially owned by me and supported by my grandparents. I pay my own expenses, manage my money, cook for myself, and focus on college, my girlfriend, and my future career.
But when my mom moved in her boyfriend and kids, and my dad moved in his girlfriend and her son, everything changed. Suddenly, they started trying to parent me, control my schedule, assign me chores, and push me to be a “big brother” to kids I barely know.
After being criticized for coming home late, refusing babysitting duties, and locking my floor to protect my belongings, I finally snapped and told them they’re not my parents and their kids aren’t my responsibility.
Now both my parents are upset, their partners are furious, and everyone says I should “give them a chance.” But I feel like at 19, I deserve independence and respect.
So… AITA for refusing to be parented by my step-parents and setting firm boundaries?
