A lot of grinding, cutting and polishing is required to get these casts into an acceptable state even with a perfect pour.
No cast is ever perfect, they all come with defects even in industrial settings.
These projects take days or even weeks for bigger ones.
All of the material that I use is from scrap that I take apart from around my area.
Anything that I can't use like plastics and rubbers, I recycle at our local transfer station.

Furnace - Devil Forge
Refractory Cement - Rutlands dry mix refractory cement 2550F
Lining - Kaowool 2 inch (or double 1 inch) ceramic fiber blanket
Mold Stuff
Sand - Home Depot playsand
Plaster - Plaster of Paris
