DeWalt 18V XRP Conversion to 20V Lithium ION

Описание: DeWalt 18V XRP LiON upgrade.

My old NiCad 18V XRP batteries were dying so I decided to try and upgrade them to Lithium Ion since DeWalt DC9096 18V NiCads retail for more than $75 each. The DCA1820 adapter allows you to use the newer 20V Max batteries on 18V tools, so it seemed very possible.

I found I can do the upgrade to 2.5AH LiON for about $30 each and get more capacity (AH's), and fast charge. The voltages are compatible since 15 NiCads *1.2v = 18V and 5 18650 LiONs * 3.6v = 18V (21V charged)

5S BMS board with Balancing on eBay
The ad says its a 20A board, but the current sense resistors used seem to make it a 66A board. The balancing circuit bleeds at at about 42mA, which means balancing is a slow process.

But they cost quite a bit more for just 1 more AmpHr of capacity.
But the 2070C does not support the 4A fast charge like the INR1865025R.

To charge this new pack, you need a simple charging board. The BMS will take care of protecting the cells.
