The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, together with the Foundation for Human Rights are proud to announce the details of our upcoming Courageous Conversation.
As a result of political interference aimed at protecting apartheid-era perpetrators from prosecution, the former TRC commissioners, families of victims and civil society organisations have repeatedly called on the President to appoint a commission of inquiry to investigate the political interference and identify those responsible, within and outside the NPA and SAPS, for suppressing the TRC cases. These efforts fell on the deaf ears.
As justice and accountability for apartheid era crimes was important to the Archbishop and remains critical for any debate on the rule of law in South Africa, the Courageous Conversations will explore the idea of setting up of an independent commission of inquiry to investigate political interference by the Executive into the work of the NPA and SAPS.
