This House Was Left to Die for 10 Years

This house was abandoned for more than 10 years.
It belonged to my grandparents and was built in the 1960s, in a quiet mountain area, at the end of a small road, surrounded by nature. After my grandparents passed away, the house slowly fell into decay. Rain entered through the roof, the wooden structure weakened, and most people believed the only solution was demolition.
Instead of tearing it down, I chose to save it.
In just one year, with no prior construction experience, I transformed this abandoned family house into a traditional guesthouse and a small rural business. The original house was built by my grandfather, a carpenter, using solid wooden beams and traditional techniques. It had an L-shaped layout, with a clear separation between summer and winter living areas, and a wooden porch facing the sun.
During the renovation, I carefully stripped the walls, repaired and reinforced the original structure, and preserved as many authentic elements as possible. To make the house functional as a guesthouse, I added new spaces including bathrooms, a kitchen, and a technical room. The roof was completely rebuilt and unified into a single volume, respecting traditional proportions while adapting the building for modern use.
All electrical and plumbing systems were replaced to ensure safety and long-term durability. Wherever I lacked experience, I asked for help — quality and safety were always the priority.
Today, the house operates as a traditional guesthouse for families seeking peace, nature, and authenticity. The property is pet-friendly and includes outdoor spaces, a large wooden terrace for summer days, and a small farm experience for children, with animals such as peacocks, rabbits, chickens, ponies, and a friendly dog.
Behind the house, I also created a glamping area with two large glamping tents installed on elevated wooden platforms. These operate during the summer season and are located close to the kitchen, bathroom, and terrace, offering comfort while staying connected to nature.
This project is not just about renovation.
It’s about giving an abandoned place a new purpose — and letting its story continue.
