Generating light and place from water infrastructure
Data Flows was the People's Choice award winner at Pitch Night on Thursday 28 July, 2022.
This concept explores how technology might augment, enhance and enable the social, cultural and ecological role of water in Fishermans Bend.
By tapping into existing water infrastructure and real-time data, this concept proposes a network of light-emitting devices that stir up curiosity about the movement of water on and below the surface. Otherwise-invisible water infrastructure is brought to street level in a network of beacons dotted across Fishermans Bend, creating new public spaces that enliven, engage and inform. These solar-powered beacons, or ‘indicators’, could tell stories about water recycling rates through brightness, stormwater flow speed through flicker speed, predicted storm surge levels through colour, and more.
