Impressions:
While on a trip to Denver, Colorado in May 2025, a search for local concerts
yielded one being held in Georgetown, CO by Nattali Rize and her band at a
place called Mother’s Saloon. Having been a fan of her music since the release
of the excellent Rebel Frequency album in 2017, was keen to attend.
The concert in Georgetown was part of the recently released (2025) ‘Liberate’
album, which is definitely worth checking out. It features such reggae
heavyweights as Judy Mowatt and frequent collaborators Julian Marley
and Kabaka Pyramid.
Georgetown is a small town located about 45 miles west of Denver and the ride
there through the Rocky Mountains was quite pleasant.
As one of the proprietors of Mother’s Saloon and host for the evening explained,
the concert was a benefit to build a skateboarding facility for local youth.
Once the music started, the assembled crowd of about a couple of hundred attendees
were treated to what can only be described as a delicious mix of original
‘roots rock reggae‘, with a couple of Bob Marley tunes thrown in
(“War”, “Could You Be Loved”).
The latter of the two Bob Marley songs was the finale, with Nattali jumping down
about five feet from the stage and proceeding to jam with the crowd to that
rhythmically infectious song.
Overall, it was worth the drive out to this relatively remote and quaint town to see
this great band of reggae musicians!
