Dr. EyeGuy explains the most recent statistics related to SARS-CoV-2, Covid-19 and eye symptoms. Dr. Neal Guymon discusses the virus SARS-CoV-2, Covid 19 and it's effects on the eyes. Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is the most common symptom from the Coronavirus. Luckily, only 7% of the people with Covid-19 report eye problems, the most common being red eyes, or a conjunctivitis. A conjunctiva is the thin clear layer of tissue surrounding the sclera, the white part of the eye. If the Conjunctiva becomes red and inflamed, then it could be a conjunctivitis. Allergies, Bacteria, and Virus can cause a conjunctivitis and red eyes. A Viral conjunctivitis is more contagious, but usually is from a different virus, called the adenovirus. A conjunctivitis from Covid 19 will resolve on it's own. It's also unlikely that you will have pink from Covid 19 and no other symptoms. Also, 1% of the people who have a conjunctivitis from Covid-19, sheds the virus in their tears! Dr. Neal Guymon, O.D. explains how it is possible to get a pink eye from coronavirus. Make sure that you be care not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth. It's believed that coronavirus can be passed through your tears. Be clean and safe out there.
