The Stockholm Concert Hall is one of the city's most recognizable buildings. This is the place that hosts the annual Nobel Prize Award Ceremony. Tonight, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra is going to perform here. Follow me to the backstage.
This is the very spot where Nobel laureates receive their medals from the King of Sweden. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the orchestra carefully selected its repertoire. The concert opened with "Ode to Red Flag", composed by the orchestra's former director Lyu Qiming. It is the first time that the piece is performed in Sweden by a Chinese orchestra.
The joining of Suona artist Liu Wenwen brought the atmosphere to its peak.
Stockholm Resident Therese said, "That was really impressive, I think. And I haven't heard that before. So that was really fun to experience."
Juliana Angela Dube-Gobotswang from Botswana said, "The minute I wondered what type of sound was going to come out of the instrument, and then it sounded exactly like a bird. There's a part which reached out crescendo where she was now performing so well and she managed to hold a note for so long. I remember the entire audience erupted in applause. I wish she could go on and on as an encore."
They also presented "The Suhe Creek", a symphony by composer in residence Peng-Peng Gong, which embodies the distinctive "Shanghai style".
Vinicius Floriani Martins, Business Development Manager of Wetterling Gallery said, "Performance overall was fantastic. I'm actually going to Shanghai in one month, really looking forward to it."
Can Huizhong, a student from Chalmers University of Technology said, "The moment when I listened to the traditional song, I got my tears down. And it has been five years I study here in Gothenburg. So basically I took the train yesterday just to come to this concert. It's very impressive and I feel so connected to our culture and also to share those best wishes from China to Sweden."
Gong specially arranged "Tonerna", a song by Swedish composer Carl Sjöberg, into a symphonic piece. This romantic work expresses people's yearning for music at night and the comfort it brings, perfectly aligning with the orchestra’s mission: to build bridges of friendship through music and celebrate the bright future of cultural exchange between China and Sweden.
