Steel Empire (Sega Mega Drive) Playthrough

Описание: For the first time, my traditional birthday playthrough is not an Alfred Chicken game, but rather another game I enjoy immensely. Here is a really fun shooter with an interesting steampunk theme, a great soundtrack and fun gameplay.

The plot of this game is basically that you are a pilot fighting for the Republic of Silverhead, the last hope to save the world from the evil Motorhead Empire who has enslaved most of the world.

Before each stage you can choose from either a biplane or zeppelin. The biplane is quicker and smaller but also weaker while the zeppelin is slower and bigger but also stronger. As the greater strength of the zeppelin is better suited to my playing style, I use it in most of the game's stages but the biplane's bombs are more useful for taking out the ground defences in Stages 4 and 6. However, even if you prefer the biplane, the zeppelin's aerial mines make the giant flying battleship bosses in Stages 3 and 5 a lot easier so I'd recommend using it for those stages anyway.

You can also upgrade your weapons by collecting Ex icons, collect 3 to upgrade a level up to a maximum of 20. Your current weapon level remains even after you die or continue, which helps make this game more forgiving. You also have lightning bombs to deal major damage but I prefer to save most of them for the final boss since using them is the only way to avoid being damaged by the screen-filling attack used by the final boss' last phase.

The combination of the game's unique steampunk theme, the amazing soundtrack and fun gameplay make this arguably my favorite shooter on the Sega Mega Drive, ports of this game were later released on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 3DS.
