Flying Scotsman Services operated this charter from London Waterloo to Weymouth and back on 13th November 1993. It was billed as the first steam hauled train from Weymouth to London Waterloo since 1967 and appropriately used rebuilt Bullied West Country Pacific 34027 'Taw Valley' on the Weymouth to London leg of the trip. The weather that day wasn't particularly good with strong wind and rain. The outbound leg of the trip was hauled by 73003 which had been restored to a 1960s green livery and carried the nameplates 'Sir Herbert Walker'. This locomotive is now preserved on the Swindon & Cricklade Railway. The empty coaching stock working was hauled by 47833, also repainted in class 47 style two-tone green with original number D1962 and named 'Captain Peter Manisty RN'. This locomotive was withdrawn and scrapped in 2000.
Stops for watering and pathing were made at Wareham and Eastleigh on the return. At Eastleigh several locos were seen in the yard and an Inter City Charter 'Raspberry Ripple' set hauled by an unknown 47/8 passed.
There was also a good crowd at Waterloo, lots of people enjoying the moment!
