In this video, I’m sharing exactly what we do for our first day and first week of homeschool, plus practical tips for new homeschool moms who are trying to figure out how to begin.

I’m walking through our favorite first-day-of-school traditions, including a special breakfast, grade-level shirts for the kids, fun new shirts for me, a simple craft or activity, first-day pictures with the grandparents, and ending the day with a pool day.

I also share how I keep our first day academically simple by focusing only on math and reading. Instead of starting every subject and curriculum at once, we ease into our homeschool year slowly so we can build a routine that actually works for our family.

You’ll also hear why I recommend starting homeschool around the same time as your co-op, farm school, sports, or other regular activities. If you know an activity will be part of your schedule all year, it can be helpful to build your routine around it from the beginning instead of creating a rhythm and then having to completely change it a few weeks later.
