🍂I’d been dreaming of doing this hike in autumn for years and it turned out even more magical than I imagined. Golden larches, calm lakes, and that perfect view of the Matterhorn… it doesn’t get better than this.

🥾The 5 Lakes Trail in Zermatt is one of the most scenic hikes in Switzerland, and fall truly brings it to life. The usual route starts at Blauherd after taking the funicular and cable car, and ends at Sunnegga, where you take the funicular back to Zermatt. The trail is mostly downhill, passing by 5 stunning lakes. However, towards the end of October, when the autumn foliage is at its peak, the funicular and cable car aren’t in service. So, we took the Gornergrat train to Riffelalp, where we began the hike, visiting the lakes in this order: Grünsee, Grindjisee, Stellisee, Leisee, and Mosjesee, before returning to Riffelalp. This route is longer, with more uphill sections, but the breathtaking views and the golden larches made it well worth the effort.

⚠️ Always check the weather conditions before starting a hike and wear proper footwear. On this day, the path was icy and the rocks were slippery.
