An average iPhone case that lets you put awesome things on the back of it!

We consider the Case-Mate Tough Extreme a tough case mostly because the word "tough" is in the product name. We got our Case-Mate case from Zazzle.com which allows you to customize the case so we decided to put our logo on it. In our opinion, this makes this case super awesome but once we applied our Eh! Rating system, we realized this case isn't awesome and has a couple of short-comings.
On the Tough Extreme, there is almost no chance this case is going to accidentally fall out of your hand because of its design, it's a little thinner than other tough cases but the screen view ability and usability of your iPhone 6 is going to suffer quite a bit in this case.
Based on our time with this case, we gave it a score of 3.72 Eh’s out of 5 in our Case-Mate Tough Extreme Review. Cases that are better include the Griffin Survivor All-Terrain, the Ballistic Hardcore but the CaseMate Tough Extreme is definitely better than the Otterbox Defender. You will find the differences between those cases at the bottom of this review.
So at Mobile Reviews Eh!, we try to use our cases before actually reviewing them. We also compare them against other cases so that we can have a better idea of which case is actually better. Now I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know if this is an Official CaseMate Tough Extreme. Before I ordered this case, I called Dazzle and they said it was but then I called CaseMate to see what the drop protection was and they said they don’t sell CaseMate Tough Extremes. So is this a tough case? I would say so. How would I be comfortable dropping it from? 6 ft.
I am very impressed with the physical handling of this case. The design of the edges on the case are basically mini tires as it has this tread so there is a very low chance this case is going to slip out of your hand accidentally. However, this added texture makes it a little more difficult to put into your pockets since it gets caught on things.
The one thing that doesn’t sit well with me is the screen view ability and usability of the case. The screen protector doen’t sit flush on the screen, there is a bit of glare and it diffuses the iPhone 6’s retina hd screen. As result, your screen usability also suffers as the gap is noticeable and annoying and subsequently, you lose a bit of sensitivity on your touchscreen.
But again, you can print something awesome on your case! So those are the standout features that I like and don’t like about the CaseMate Tough extreme. If you need a full comparison of the, check out our website that has the full review table. I’m going to take the next few minutes and go over the a few more features involving the design, protection and functionality of this case.
Out of the tough iPHone cases that we have, the CaseMate Tough Extreme is the smallest. It comes in 2 parts and is fairly easy to install. If you do get this case, I found it easiest to install the side with all the buttons first. Putting the case together is easy.
In terms of protection, this case isn’t rated. It was but while talking to CaseMate customer service, they couldn’t tell me what the drop height was. In terms of water and dust, these cases won’t keep water out and it will do very little to keep dust out. The gap in the screen protector means that stuff is going to get between your screen protector and iPHone so cleaning the case periodically is recommended. Good thing it’s easy to take apart.
The last thing about this case deals with the port covers of this case. They are functional but they are not as easy to use as other cases as you have to bend them slightly in order for them to fit into the case.
Now between the Otterbox Defender, Griffin Survivor and Ballistic Hardcore, we’d recommend the CaseMate Tough extreme if you think all these cases are too big and you still want a bit of drop protection, don’t work in a dusty environment and want to customize your case. If you’re looking for something that’s offer’s better dust protection, go with the Survivor as it has everything covered and if you’re looking for an extremely tough case, grab the Hardcore as you can drop it from 12 ft. Trust us. We did.
